FAQS

Mallorca FAQs

Accommodation

  • Is there an extra charge for single occupancy of the room? If so, what is it?

All prices shown are the cost for the room - so the price for a single room is the all-in price for single occupancy.
  • Where can I store my bike? Can I keep my bike in my room?

You can keep your bike in your room in all the hotels we use.
  • Are there kettles in the rooms?

    Yes
  • Where can I wash my clothes?

The hotels offer a laundry service at an extra charge, and the Playa Mar has a coin washing machine and dryer.
  • Is there a fridge in the room?

    Yes
  • Do all rooms come with a bath?

No, most rooms just have a shower.
  • Do you cater for vegetarians, vegans, etc?

We do cater for vegetarians – any other special dietary requirements can be accommodated, but we need to be notified at the time the booking is made.
  • What facilities are there in the hotel?

In the Roc hotels (Jan): bar and evening entertainment, wifi (extra charge), parking; In the Mar hotels (Spring and October): spa, gym, bars, pool, wifi, parking. We also often have a masseur available on the Spring and October camps.
  • What is there to do nearby when I’m not cycling?

There are plenty of other local activities including: beaches, boat trips, diving, rock climbing, walking, shopping, cinemas and restaurants.
  • My friend/partner wants to come with me and not cycle. Is there a discount for non cyclists?

There is a £40 discount for non-cyclists per week.
  • What is the Mallorca Tourist Tax?

The Mallorcan Government has imposed a tourist tax on all visitors to the island, payable directly to the hotel on arrival. In 2019, the rate for the hotels we use was €3.30 per day with a 50% reduction in the rate after 8 days.
  • Are there hair-dryers in the rooms

Yes, there are hair-dryers in all Playa Mar and Mar Senses rooms.

Rides

  • What kit should I bring with me?

For a one week trip, we suggest you bring 3 pairs of shorts, 3 jerseys, 3 pairs of cycling socks, 3 undervests, 2 pairs of arm and leg warmers, gloves, overshoes, a rain jacket, gilet, helmet, eye protection and sun cream. If you are not renting a bike, then it is important that your bike is in good working order and that you have a pump, spare tubes, tyre levers and water bottles.
  • I haven’t been cycling for very long and I am worried I won’t be able to keep up. Are your cycling camps too tough for me?

Apart from the Jan camp (which we don’t recommend for inexperienced cyclists), all our camps cater for all levels from novice through to elite riders.
  • How far do you usually cycle each day?

This depends on which group you choose to go with. The steady ride will usually do 50-60 miles per day with 1 or 2 cafe stops. The intermediate and faster groups typically do 70-100 miles per day with 1 cafe stop. If there is demand, we can also offer shorter rides of 30-40 miles - please ask.
  • How many people usually ride together in one group?

    The average is 10-20.
  • Do you have different levels of rides?

Yes. The number of different level rides depends on the number of cyclists we have on the camp. In January there is usually just one group; there are typically 2-3 groups in February, early March and May, and then upwards of 5 groups during more popular periods including late March, April and October.
  • Are the ride leaders experienced?

All ride leaders are experienced cyclists who have either raced or are still racing. Most have cycled for 10+ years and some are masters, national or world champions.
  • Do I have to cycle with one of your groups or can I do my own thing?

You are free to cycle with or without any of our groups. We will still offer you support in the event of an emergency if you are cycling on your own.
  • Do you have a procedure in place for what to do in an emergency?

Yes we do have several different procedures for emergencies. It depends on the type and severity of the emergency. Some of our ride leaders have first-aid training, but we mostly use the Mallorca emergency services which are very good and efficient.
  • Can I buy sports gels there or should I bring them with me? What brands can I get there?

There is a large selection of well-stocked cycling shops in Mallorca and most major brands of sports gels are readily available.

Bike Hire

  • What do I need to bring for the hire bike? Do I need to bring tools? Do I need to bring pedals? Do I need to bring a water bottle? Do the bikes have one bottle cage or two?

You need to bring pedals, shoes, a helmet and water bottles. The bikes come with a pump, spare inner tube and tyre levers. You don’t need to bring tools since the bikes are fully maintained and only go out for rental if in good condition. Most bikes have 2 bottle cages except the extra small ones which can only fit one cage.
  • What make/spec are the hire bikes?

We have a variety of full-carbon bikes (Dream, Specialized, Etape and Kyota) with Shimano 105 group sets, 34/50 chainsets and either 12/28 or 12/32 cassettes. More details are on our bike hire page.
  • Can I get a women’s saddle on my hire bike?

    Yes, we have women’s saddles.
  • Do I have to book and pay for hire bikes in advance or can I arrange one when I’m out there?

We recommend you book your bike when booking your holiday as the bikes go very quickly and it saves you wasting time sorting out a bike when you get there. You also need to pay for your bike hire before your arrival.

General

  • Are airport transfers included in the cost of your trips?

Yes airport transfers are included provided that you use our contracted companies, and we provide you with information about where to meet your driver in advance of your trip. We will not reimburse you for taking a regular taxi. Transport of your bike is included in the transfer cost. Please note than an additional charge may apply for transfers between the hours of 10pm and 9am.
  • AM I OK TO COME ON MY OWN RATHER THAN IN A GROUP OR WITH FRIENDS?

Yes, definitely! We have a lot of customers who come on their own, including a lot of women and they have a great time. You will meet plenty of people whilst out cycling and at dinner and in the bar. We tend to be a sociable bunch on and off the bike. Many people who come on their own the first year then arrange to return the following year to meet up with friends they met on the trip.
  • DO YOU GET MUCH REPEAT BUSINESS?

Yes, we have a very high return rate and a large number of regular customers who come with us year-in, year-out. Some do 4 or more trips a year with us!
  • Can I buy Stuart Hall Cycling kit?

Yes, we have kit available for sale on our trips – please ask if you’d like to buy some.
  • How much spending money do I need?

That depends on how much you want to drink, eat out and shop! To take part in the camp, all you will need is about €10 a day for lunch. Breakfast and dinner are included, however drinks at the hotel are extra, so you should bring enough to cover what you want to drink, any additional meals out, snacks, and shopping etc.
  • Can I pay by card?

    Yes
